Unit Title: What is DP ITGS?
Aim: to introduce the course and the main concepts also to introduce the concept of "an ethical issue" and to study some first scenarios.

Learn about the ITGS course that you've signed yourself up for
Activity 1
Your teaching will talk to you about what the subject is about as well as matters of a "DP nature" in general. You should start to take notes on what is covered in this class. If you need to look back on the powerpoint that was used then it's available below:

Activity 2
Read the following article. It is about a scenario that happened in a school in the UK. Once you have read the article, with a partner design a way of summarising the scenario. Try to do it in a way that you could apply to further scenarios.

Objective 2
To learn what Social and Ethical Issues are and how they are applied to the study of ITGS
Activity 1

Your teacher will talk to you about the concept of Social Impacts and Ethical Considerations. You need to make sure that you clearly understand the difference and that by the end of this activity you can use the other two parts of the ITGS Triangle.

Activity 2

In groups you are going to be given a bunch of scenarios. You job is to identify the Social Impact and the Ethical consiterations in as few words as possible. Feedback your groups findings to the rest of the class. While you are at it identify the stakeholders in your scenarios.

Activity 3

You are going to be given something that's going to make life easier....to what extent does what you've just been given help you to identify the social impacts and ethical issues in a scenario?

Activity 4

First.........Pick one of the following areas of Strand 1 Areas of Social and Ethical Significance.

Second... research your chosen area of significance. You are trying to answer the following essential questions:

  • What does my area of significance mean? (a definition...yours not the IBO's)
  • Why is my area significant?
  • Imagine a scenario (or find a real one) where my area is especially significant.
  • How might my area become more or less significant in the future?

Make sure that you read the appropriate page in the ITGS Wikipedia in the course of your research.

Third.... create a poster on your area of social and ethical significance the fact sheet should contain at the very least the answers to the essential questions that you researched.

To learn how to cite sources of information in IB DP ITGS (and other DP subjects)

Read the following information sheet carefully. Make sure that you save it somewhere you'll remember as you'll need it for all your ITGS work and for most of your other DP Subjects too.
